I read in a ton of fandoms, but this is mostly geared towards Harry Potter. Most of these likes are pretty general, but they hold most true for my OTPs (in HP's case Harry/Draco and James Sirius/Teddy). I'm a lot less particular when it comes to the other pairings I enjoy.

And, of course, this is just a list of my general preferences. For just about all of my "dislikes" I can think of fabulous exceptions. If you are making something for me, I can pretty much guarantee I'm going to love it! <3

Tons of thanks to [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore, from whom I stole this format/organization of ideas.

For a more generalized cross-fandom list of likes/dislikes, you can go HERE.

For a list of unclaimed prompts that I've left for various Harry Potter fests, you can go HERE.

The awesome Fansplaining Podcast is conducting a survey to come up with a shared definition for what "fanfiction" actually is. It takes maybe 10-15 minutes, and they have questions on your defintiion of fandom and fanfiction, what types of things fanfiction always, never, or sometimes is, as well as questions on published works and whether or not they qualify as fanfiction. If you have some free time, I recommend you take a look and fill out the survey. :D

In case you missed it, the Three Patch Podcast is conducting a survey about Fandom & Sex/Sexuality. September 21st is the last day to participate, so if you have about 30 minutes to spare, I'd recommend filling it out! It's completely anonymous, and it asks questions about your sexual identity, the types of pairings and fandoms you enjoy, and fandom's impact on your solitary and partnered sexual activity. Super interesting stuff! :D

I've joined, and my "community" (aka personal journal) can be found HERE. I have tons of codes, so if anybody is interested, let me know! I might like it more if more people I knew were using it. Possibly.

I...am not sold yet. Yes, the UI is sleeker than LJ, but it really isn't everything people keep touting it to be. I get that it is currently in beta, but it is seriously lacking functionality. It seems like a prettier and significantly less useful version of livejournal. I'm a little confused by people saying it's a combination of tumblr and livejournal, because there doesn't seem to be much of tumblr in it, in my opinion. It seems much more like livejournal, with less functionality and it's A LOT less intuitive...which makes me wonder why people are supposedly flocking there instead of coming to livejournal. Not that I'm bitter. But I swear to fucking god if I have to hear one more time about how LJ is dead when I have 30+ posts a day from my flist, I will fucking cut a bitch. I just...most of the complaints I hear from people about LJ have not at all been my experience with it, so I cannot relate. Obviously their experiences are their experiences, but people bitch about LJ having a terrible interface etc. hard to connect blahblahblah, when they've never posted and haven't made any effort to customize their blog. Yes, sorry, LJ does require more effort than simply creating an empty account and then expecting shit to just drop into your lap. AKneiowfnva;klsVN! /rant

Anyway, I'm not giving up on Imzy, because if it's the ~new thing~ I'll want to be on board, but I'm skeptical that the fairly large scale changes in usability will happen quick enough for it to actually happen. There are a few cool things about Imzy, such as the ability to participate without creating a journal, but they're sort of low on the necessary scale, IMO. Honestly, I'm a little disappointed by the hype, not only because I haven't seen much to merit it (other than a clean UI) but because it feels like fandom is trying to force imzy to be something that LJ could more easily be, but they refuse to even consider LJ as an option. Which maybe makes me seem old or crochety or something, but livejournal works for me. *shrug*

[A tip for those who decide to join Imzy. It's not enough to simply join. In order to create a journal for people to add, you have to manually create a personal journal (which imzy calls a community, totally off-putting, but it's a personal journal, promise). Once you've done that, people can join, but they will be anonymous until they comment on a post on the community. So create a post for people to comment on, and when you add a friend/join a community, comment on a post so you can be recognized!]

Okay, this is a weird question for all of you out there who do a lot of fanfic reading on tablets especially. How do you do it?

I read a decent amount on my kindle, and I'm curious if there's a better, more awesome and efficient way to go about things, or if I'm doing what y'all are doing!

Basically, there are three ways I read fic on my kindle:

  1. If it's a short piece, I usually just read it in the browser, like I do on my laptop

  2. If it's mid-length to long, and I plan on reading it right that minute, I download as a .mobi, and then read it like it's a kindle book, and it's saved in my downloads.

  3. If it's super long, and I don't plan on reading it right away, but want to have it available for something like plane ride, I download the fic as a PDF (usually on my laptop) and then "convert" the fic to kindle format, so it'll show up on my kindle like a book.

So, is that how you all do things? Is there some secret trick to awesomeness that I'm missing? It is very important to me that I maximize my fic reading experience. ;)

Seems like a fun challenge if you want a little extra motivation to finish a WIP! I'm definitely considering signing up. I've got a candidate or two, and I'm just trying to figure out if I'll have time in addition to some of my other commitments.

Join us at [livejournal.com profile] wipbigbang
Sign up March 6-April 3 and Finish Your Sh**!

This is a Big Bang with one goal in mind: to clean out your drafts folder. These are stories that were unfinished for whatever reason, that authors returned to and completed, and the art that goes with them! All fandoms welcome!

Maybe I'm the last to the party, but I just found this super cool AO3 script!

Basically, when you read a fic, in addition to giving a "kudus" you can also click this button that says "Seen". So when you are looking at a big overview list of fics, there will be a little sidebar that indicates whether you've seen the fic and whether you've given a kudos, without you having to open up the fic and try to find your name.

I read so much in so many different fandom that I find this enormously helpful! It's really nice to be able to see right away if I've read a fic or not.

Anyways, I thought it was really cool and practical, so I thought I'd pass it along. :)

ETA: I also found this IFTTT script so that you can control which notifications you get from AO3 subscriptions. Like, if you follow an author that writes in multiple fandoms, and you only really care about one of them, you can make it so that you only get an email when the author has posted something in that particular fandom.

Mostly HP fests, but a few Teen Wolf and other fandom fests thrown in. Some of these haven't been announced yet, so they may not be running, or they may moved months. :D

Let me know if you think there's a fest that I've forgotten to include! It's very possible...

Under a cut because it is super long )

Day 2

In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

Hmm, this one is always hard. I know there are things I want, but they are either abstract, or I can't really think of them right now. :/

1. Icons! I'd like some more Next Gen character icons. Particularly a Scorpius and one of the girls. Maybe Lily Luna or Rose? Oh, and a Dumbledore icon. I also want a new default icon, but IDK what... :/

2. Fanart! For one of my fics! :D I love fanart, and it's always super amazing and exciting to see fanart for your words.

3. Read/Comment/Guess! The anon masterlist is up at [livejournal.com profile] hd_erised, and I'd love to see some more comments go up for the creations before reveals on January 8th. You all have been really wonderful and supportive, but some of the later posts could use some more love. Some of my absolute favorite pieces from the fest posted in the last two weeks. And for those of you who love to guess, we have our guessing poll up for the year as well. :D

I'm going to Leviosa! I know, I'm super excited too. :D

The wonderful [livejournal.com profile] dicta_contrion and I have been trying to figure out if we want to get Standard or VIP registration. And since the appeal of some of these events is going to largely depend on how many of you lovely f-listers are going to be there, it seemed like a good idea to get some feedback!

So [livejournal.com profile] dicta_contrion has made a post/poll asking if people are going to Leviosa, and what events everybody plans on attending.

Ya'll should go over there and fill things out, because I'm super curious, and I want to know what events you guys are planning to do, so I can do them too! :D

I had a question for ya'll, especially for those of you on my f-list who have been around for awhile.

Do you know if the HP fandom ever had a porn-a-thon challenge? Like [livejournal.com profile] mating_games for Teen Wolf or [livejournal.com profile] summerpornathon for Merlin?

I want to say no, but I could be totally wrong. I know there is the Humpathon by [livejournal.com profile] hp_humpdrabbles, but I think that's more like a comment-meme type thing, yes? Also, I think it might be all het. I can't find anything that actually says that, but I don't see anything other than het, so...

Basically, it's a multi-pairing, multi-week challenge, where people sign up and get put onto teams *cough*hogwarts houses*cough*, and then each week there is a challenge (like a prompt/word/picture etc.) and then everybody has a week-ish to draw/write something under 1k I think, and it has to be smutty or at least suggestive. You get points for your team for completing the challenge, and then all the entries are divided, and people vote for their favorites. And the winners get extra points for their team.

It honestly seems super fun, and it seems like HP, with its large variety of pairings, would be an awesome fandom for that kind of a challenge. But IDK if these days we'd really get the participation needed to make it work. :/

Just some ~thoughts~. Merlin is having their [livejournal.com profile] summerpornathon right now, and I seriously considered participating, but I figured I had enough going on with adding that to the pile. But I've been voting and watching and it really does seem like a blast.

Would any of you lovelies be willing to look over an H/D ficlet for me? It's about 3k and explicit. No other warnings, really. I'd just need it back by mid-August. :D

Leave a comment or send me a PM if you thing you could look it over for me!

Thanks! <33

These are some general likes/dislikes that are easily applied cross fandom. For a slightly more detailed, HP-specific list, go here. Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] alby_mangroves. :D

Sex related:
Detailed kissing, oral fixation, exhibitionism/voyeurism, DIRTY TALK, masturbation, rimming, sibling incest, secret sexy underwear, sex in public places, loud sex, voice/scent kink, sex outside of the bedroom, sex toys, mutual masturbation, role play, nipple play, multiple orgasms, self-fucking with toys, edging (delayed gratification, drawing it out), being held down, possessiveness and jealousy, frottage, topping from the bottom, shower or bath sex, oral sex of all kinds, exhibitionism, first times, make-up sex, anal sex, dubcon of the made-them-do-it/sex pollen variety, a/b/o, knotting, biting and marking, barebacking, light bondage, blindfolds, D/s dynamics, blowjobs and face-fucking, rough/angry sex, sleep sex, somnophilia, partially clothed sex, power dynamics

I'm Not a Fan Of:
rape/non-con, major character death (when not canonical), non-con/public humiliation, epithets (the other man, the brunet, the younger man, etc), scat/watersports, dark!characters or dark!fic in general, child abuse, child death or miscarriage, mpreg (in general), baby and kidfic (in general), infidelity (particularly the main pairing cheating on one another), flat-out unhappy endings (ambigous is okay, as long as there's hope!), crossovers, polyamory, rentboy!fic, excessive homophobia, lower-rated fic (generally I like some smut included in my fic)

There are so many wonderful things happening this month! <3

[livejournal.com profile] hprare_cliche is posting now. So far there has been het, slash, AND femslash offerings, which I think is awesome. I've got something in this fest, so you should just read and comment on every single piece just in case it's mine. :D

[livejournal.com profile] harrybang! My f-list was blowing up Saturday with all of these fabulous things. I've already read 'Twas Brillig, which was wonderful, and I'm excited to start on some others. This week is pretty crazy for me, but I'm hoping to read at least one more before Friday, hopefully two.

[livejournal.com profile] hp_kinkfest started posting today! Another fabulous fest that'll likely have some gloriously short and kinky pieces to break up some HBB reading. I'm finishing up edits on my fic this week and then it'll be ready for posting.

Claiming is open for [livejournal.com profile] hdotp's Fairy Tale fest, [livejournal.com profile] hp_getlucky, and [livejournal.com profile] hprarefest this week. I've been thinking about maybe signing up for one of those. Or for [livejournal.com profile] dracotops_harry, which is still open for claiming as well. I've finished the drafts for all of my current fest commitments, and I really like participating in fests. But I also have a lot of non-fest projects I want to work on, that I'd like to work on...so many decisions!

We've also got [livejournal.com profile] do_me_veela starting up in a few weeks, and [livejournal.com profile] hd_remix posting at the end of the month!

Day 15: In your own space, create your own challenge. What’s something you want to see more people doing in fandom? Is there something fun you’ve tried that you think other people would enjoy if they gave it a go? Dare your friends to try it out, and have fun with it.

Okay, this is actually perfect! Because I thought of something a few days ago that I want more people to do, and now I have an excuse to ask ya'll to do it!

I'd love more people to make a fanfic likes/dislikes/preferences post. It's super helpful if anybody ever wanted to make you a secret amazing gift, but mostly I am just very nosy, and I find it so interesting seeing the likes we have in common and the ones that we don't!

If you are unsure of what I'm talking about, or are looking for some examples, [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore has a lovely post here, or you can check out [livejournal.com profile] firethesound's post here.

I've been working on my own and it's been a lot of fun thinking about all the things I enjoy reading. So if you've been wanting to make one, but have been putting it off for some reason, now's your chance! Blame it on me! :D
