I didn’t have mom duty until 10am, so I went downtown as usual. I hit Walmart, the Bakery, and Agway while I was there, and got in a walk around the park.

After I got home from downtown I tossed a load of what I call ‘dog sheets’ (the sheets I use to cover the furniture) into the washer, hand-washed some dishes, took the dogs for a short walk (I got in .85 mi today, which is good considering mom’s operation/hospitalization etc has really put a crimp in my ‘I can get to a mile this week’ *spoken in mocking tone* notion), and scooped kitty litter before I headed to mom’s.

I got home in time to make supper, so grilled chicken legs, hand-washed more dishes, dried the sheets, and took a shower.

I watched the current ep of Murderbot and finished the Amelia Peabody book. I also saw my first fawn! Sadly, it wasn’t one of ~our fawns, but a downtown fawn. (I’m always surprised how many deer live downtown! I see them crossing the road or people’s lawns all the time.) Mama and baby were crossing the road as I was heading home (and made it safely, even though baby was taking its sweet time). Baby was so tiny and adorable! All those spots!

Temps started out at 51.1(F) (what is with these cool temps?!!) and reached 91.0. In the shade.

Title: Serpentwined
Disclaimer: J. K. Rowling and associates own these characters. I am writing this story for fun and not profit.
Pairings: Gen, other than discussion of past James/Lily
Rating: PG-13
Content Notes: AU (Harry is in Slytherin), Parseltongue, blood prejudice, angst, drama, minor violence, multiple points-of-view
Summary: AU. Harry has revealed his Parseltongue publicly and been Sorted into Slytherin, and now he has to deal with people who want to use him, people who despise him, and people who don’t know what to do with him. Oh, and some people who want to be his friends. In the meantime, Harry continues his personal quest to redeem the reputation of Parseltongue. Sequel to “Tread Among Serpents.”
Author’s Notes: This is the third story of my “From Litha to Lammas” series being posted between Midsummer and the first of August. It should have five to seven parts. You really should read “Tread Among Serpents” first.

[community profile] sunshine_revival's next challenge is:
Tunnel of Love
Journaling: The romance of summer! What do you love? Write about anything you feel sentimental about or that gets your heart pumping.
Creative: Write a love poem to anyone or anything you like.

This is a topic I've been thinking about a lot lately. As an aro-ace person growing up in a time before we really had labels for those things (and, frankly, even now when some people still just don't get it), I've had a lot of experiences of being told that the way I loved people was wrong or not good enough. I'm... well, I was about to say I'm lucky to have people in my life now who don't see my love as lesser because it isn't romantic and never will be, and that is true, but also I have worked damn hard to accept myself as I am and to put energy into relationships with people who get me. So it's part luck, part skill. :P

I recently got a formal diagnosis of being on the autism spectrum. (I promise this relates.) This was something I had suspected for a long time, but having it confirmed has led me to take stock of a lot of past experiences and shine a different light on them. I've always had intense "special interests," but early on in life I learned to downplay them because of other people's disapproval. I think I am a much more... passionate person than others might suspect? I've only been able to let it show a little in fannish spaces where it's more accepted to fall in love with a fandom, or become infatuated with a character, or be swept off your feet by a storyline. Those aren't metaphors, it's really what it feels like, and I feel that way about a lot of things!

When I was a kid one of my special interests was ancient Egypt. I remember flipping through history books and feeling a physical level of joy and contentment as I pored over photos of pyramids and papyri, because I just loved loved loved what I was seeing so much. When the prompt asks about what gets my heart pumping, I think of things like that. But I learned to hide that part of myself because people didn't get it. I want to work on changing this. I know that kind of love is still there and I can still tap into it, and I want a future for myself where I'm proud that it's a part of me. That feels far away right now, but there was also a time when being proud of being aro-ace also felt very far away, so I think there's cause for hope.

Happy belated The Original No Kings Day.

I had mom duty from 8am to 3pm. Before I left I hand-washed some dishes and changed kitty litter. I returned a book to the library on my way there. While I was at mom’s I went for a walk. (I had eyed up this walk previously, thinking it would be close to my half-mile walks, but this was the first time I tried it. It turned out to be .65 mi, but it was a nice walk. Aside from the horrid sidewalks. The village really needs to fix the sidewalks, which have been in poor condition since I was a child, and probably before that.)

When I got home I did more hand-washing of dishes, grilled steak for Pip’s supper, shaved, and tossed a load of bath towel in the washer (AND dryer!).

I started the next Amelia Peabody book.

Temps started out at 57.4(F) and reached 77. It was a lovely day, sunny with a strong breeze.

ADHD assessment on the 18th went well, was scheduled for the DIVA test a week later, and scored 9 out of 9 for both attention deficit AND hyperactivity, and that I had this at a young age but had "limited impairment due to compensation of external structure" which according to my doctor basically means I was pretty heavily sheltered and tended to by my mom (which is true) so I didn't get a chance to really fuck up. And I mean, looking back, yeah, I can see it? But also....:\ Now as an adult trying to navigate the world, I'm kind of...whew, boy. XD;

SO YEAH THAT'S GREAT wow, lmao, I'm so. Frustrated. And I have a bachelor's degree and I was like but I have a bachelor's degree, I was able to focus and do that, and she was like yes, in something you're interested in (art). And I was like well okay. :\ This explains a lot but I'm not super thrilled.

UHM YEAH so yeah. I have a PCP appointment on the 17th to do blood work and maybe look at blood pressure medication, but also to talk about a medication that my ADHD doc would like me to go on (that's not a stimulant, bc we gotta get blood pressure in order, plus I gotta talk to the hospital in GA for records bc I have a bigeminy and ADHD doc wants to look at those results before putting me on stimulants (although there is a non-stimulant medication that she recommended to try first). BUT she thinks my problems with staying and committing to work is agoraphobia and/or a panic disorder. Uhm. So yeah, my poor brain is a goddamn mess lmao whoops.

Will has been an absolute trooper through all though, even though I keep making terrible jokes about them being stuck with me now that we're married. XD Although they have suspected this probably longer than I have so none of this is that much of a surprise for them.

In other news, today is July fourth, I'm not feeling patriotic at all, and the fireworks aren't helping. But here's some recent harvest photos.

A couple of zucchini and 2 quarts of cherries. <3

Maybe it’s just me, today, but I came across the word loach (which I’m positive I’ve heard before; it’s a type of fish after all, and sounds familiar) and the word is so delicious, it makes my mouth water.

Strong contender for next year’s word of the year? I guess we’ll see.

This short narrative puzzle game follows a man from his death, through a spiritual dream realm, and into acceptance and new life. It wasn't part of the Latin American Games Showcase, but I indirectly found it through there; the co-developers Hermanos Magia and Leap are both based in Peru.

black and white image of a lens-shaped world with stylized people and animals walking on top and bottom as rain falls from above

I loved the hand-drawn art style and the symbolic imagery, interweaving the natural and human worlds. It's like an interactive experimental short film. The puzzles are mostly classic types (Simon, Pipe Dream, etc.) sometimes slightly obscured by the artistic presentation. You could say interpreting the imagery is a kind of bonus puzzle. The challenge is minimal, just enough to keep you engaged in the soul's journey. There are no instructions but they're not needed; whenever you don't know what to do, clicking around will reveal something in a moment, and what it reveals may surprise and delight you.

I found the game really lovely and heartfelt, though it is very short. They do say up front that it's a "30 minute experience," so no shade at all, I just enjoyed it so much I wished it had been a little longer!

Arrog is available on PC (currently on sale at $1.49 USD), Android (currently on sale at $0.60 USD), iOS and PlayStation ($2.99 USD), and on Switch ($3.99 USD).

I did not have any mom-duties today so I went downtown like usual. (My old usual. *g*) I hit Walmart, but was unable to get in a walk around the park because it started to pour just as I was checking out. (I stood in the self-check out area and stared in dismay out the doors. It was not supposed to rain this morning.) Thankfully, by the time I got home, it was no longer raining here. (Must’ve hit us first and headed east to downtown.)

Once I had unpacked the car and put everything away, I left to visit my aunt, stopping at the library on the way. The librarian working today is the one who got me into two of the book series I’m reading, and I had to talk to her about them. *g* I showed my aunt photos from Ian’s graduation and paid my monthly visit to the business office.

I stopped at Sunnycrest on the way home and picked up more of the beef sticks Pip likes, hit Stewart’s for milk on the way to pick up the dogs, then went for a short walk with the dogs when we got home. I did a load of laundry, hand-washed dishes, hard-boiled some eggs, and scooped kitty litter. Being home meant I could make supper, so I grilled pork chops.

I finished reading the second book in the Lily Adler series, watched an HGTV program, and talked to mom on the phone like old times!

Temps started out at 63.3(F) and reached 82.4. There was some sun, but not much.

So one of the mods brought up a good point about the posting dates, so there's going to be a slight change this round with when emergency posting will be. Official posting will, from now on, go from September 8th to November 30th since we have so many more posters than previous rounds. Emergency posting will go on for the entire month of December, and you will not have to sign up for it, you'll just post when you finish.

Also, with regards to submitting snippets if you don't think you'll finish your fic/art by November 30th: With December now being reserved for emergency posting, you CAN submit snippets for WIPs even if you can only finish by December. However, we strongly encourage you to be upfront with your artist if you're aiming for a December posting and come to a decision on what specific date to (finish) post(ing) by so you don't leave them hanging.
