Now that reveals have gone up over at hdtropes and I've claimed my own fic I figured I'd do a quick post of my favorites from the fest! I read just about every entry (save for 1 or 2 I gave a miss due to content/length preferences!) and there were a lot of great submissions! Of course, I definitely had my personal favorites, and what stood out to me for all of these particular fics is that they really explored their given tropes in clever and unique ways. From an astrological-induced bond for bonding!fic, to both characters being undercover for identity!fic, to a fuck-or-die scenario involving statue-fucking, I loved all the clever and interesting ways these authors approached their tropes! Obviously, I highly recommend all of the below fics, but there were also a ton of other wonderful fics that I enjoyed, and I definitely recommend checking out the entire masterlist, as there really was something for every kind of H/D lover. :D

( HD Tropes Recs! )

REVEALS for the 2019 hdtropes fest have just posted, which means I get to claim my fic! I was assigned the CREATURE FIC trope for the lovely leontinabowie, and I was super excited because I've yet to really write this trope for H/D, and I LOVE them! Writing a vampire/veela/werewolf fic has actually been pretty high on my list, but I hadn't yet had the proper excuse or motivation, so this was my chance! Given Leontina's love of Vampires, that seemed the obvious creature choice, and from there, I just had to decide the slant I wanted to take. I knew I wanted to do something a little different, and ultimately I couldn't stop thinking about immortality, and how somebody like Haryr would deal (or not deal) with that. I had an absolute blast writing this one, and I'm pretty pleased with how it came out, which is always a great feeling. :)

Title: the keys to your kingdom

Summary: It was nothing so elegant as fucking, the first time they came together. It was teeth just a little too sharp— against a collarbone, on the right-side curve of a jaw, drawing blood from the plushest part of a bottom lip. It was the doorframe digging into the curve his spine was making of its own volition: closer, harder, more. Two hundred pain receptors per square inch in the human body and it was nothing but background noise in the explosion, the revelation, that was Harry Potter’s body against his.
Really lovely fic with Harry and Draco "just fooling around" but of course, with these two, it's never as simple as that. The writing was beautiful, and it was great seeing little snapshots of Harry and Draco's relationship over the years as Draco finally realizes his true feelings for Harry.

Summary: Blaise was immune to whatever it was people usually felt around his mother, for which he was profoundly grateful, since no one needed an Oedipal complex on quite that spectacular a scale, but that didn’t mean he didn’t have a thorough respect for her gift.
Super fun and clever fic with Draco being an Erosmancer (think Veela allure, but with added magical power) and, of course, Blaise's mother is one as well and immediately recognizes that steps need to be taken. I really liked Blaise's outsider POV, and the whole thing was such a cool and interesting read!

Gosh, this fic is so good! Another oldie that I read ages ago and only now got around to rereading (thanks kerrilee75 for the rec!). It starts pretty immediately after the war and goes up until that first Christmas and the author does such an amazing job with the characterizations. Harry's headspace was perfect, and really all of the interactions were awesome. I enjoyed watching Harry and the rest of the gang start to warm up to Draco, while still really acknowledging their pasts.

Summary: Cormac takes his Colin wedding dress shopping.
This is such an unusual pairing but it totally works here! Cormac is fantastically self-involved and in character, but you can still totally see the love he has for Colin and how desperately he wants to spoil him. And Colin clearly adores Cormac and has found a partner who more than appreciates his worshipful tendencies. Sexy, fun wedding dress fittings, some unfortunately disapproving parents, and crazy hot dressing room sex round out this surprising and enjoyable little fic.

Summary: When Harry Potter finds a puzzling case photo, Draco must go to Wales to investigate.
Really lovely fic with Draco having been in love with Severus since Hogwarts, and then finding out that he's alive. I loved Draco's POV and the depth of his emotion for Severus was wonderfully real. Their chemistry was palpable, and the ending was lovely and satisfying.

If you love tropes and H/D, then hd_tropes is the fest for you! This fest (sadly) didn't run last year, and I'm super excited it's back again. Y'all should definitely consider giving it a go! :D

Sign-Up Post!

There is seriously SO MUCH to love about hd_tropes. It's H/D (so obviously that's a win), it celebrates all the awesome fandom tropes (which I can honestly never get enough of), all the fic has to be rated R or NC-17 (um, this is absolutely the greatest thing ever), and it's an exchange fest (which I tend to think encourages really high quality work, since people are creating a gift for somebody).

There were honestly a ton of really spectacular fics (and art! the art was ALL so amazing), and I had such a hard time choosing just a few favorites! I seriously recommend checking out this year's masterlist and checking out all the other wonderful works.
