I read in a ton of fandoms, but this is mostly geared towards Harry Potter. Most of these likes are pretty general, but they hold most true for my OTPs (in HP's case Harry/Draco and James Sirius/Teddy). I'm a lot less particular when it comes to the other pairings I enjoy.

And, of course, this is just a list of my general preferences. For just about all of my "dislikes" I can think of fabulous exceptions. If you are making something for me, I can pretty much guarantee I'm going to love it! <3

Tons of thanks to [livejournal.com profile] birdsofshore, from whom I stole this format/organization of ideas.

Hello, lovelies!

I've mentioned this before, but now that we've narrowed dates down a bit, I wanted to make another post. During the weekend of October 19th to 22nd, [personal profile] dicta_contrion and I will be in London. We would love to meet fellow fans in the area for drinks and general merriment. :)

Let me (or Dicta) know if you'd be interested in meeting up. We would love to see as many people as are interested and will plan for a space/time/location accordingly!

My birthday was this weekend and I had a wonderful day, thanks, in no small part, to you wonderful people in fandom!

I didn't want any big ~thing~ for my birthday, so the day itself was pretty chill. My roommate and I got brunch, did some shopping (I bought a lot of makeup and some Christmas presents), went for sushi, and watched Chicago! Roommate has a very bizarre dislike of musicals, so getting her to watch it with me was quite the achievement. :)

To be honest, IRL birthdays just aren't a big deal for me. I don't have anything against them at all, but it's been a long time since they've really felt special or any different from a regular day. But fandom has a way of making things amazing. Honestly, the best part of my birthday was hearing from so many of you guys. Your emails and messages and gifts and well wishes really meant a lot, and I'm so thankful to know you all! <3

On to the thanks! )

Thanks again to every single one of you who thought of me on my birthday and reached out. I feel truly lucky to be a part of this community! Also, apologies if I left anybody out! ♥

These are some general likes/dislikes that are easily applied cross fandom. For a slightly more detailed, HP-specific list, go here. Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] alby_mangroves. :D

Sex related:
Detailed kissing, oral fixation, exhibitionism/voyeurism, DIRTY TALK, masturbation, rimming, sibling incest, secret sexy underwear, sex in public places, loud sex, voice/scent kink, sex outside of the bedroom, sex toys, mutual masturbation, role play, nipple play, multiple orgasms, self-fucking with toys, edging (delayed gratification, drawing it out), being held down, possessiveness and jealousy, frottage, topping from the bottom, shower or bath sex, oral sex of all kinds, exhibitionism, first times, make-up sex, anal sex, dubcon of the made-them-do-it/sex pollen variety, a/b/o, knotting, biting and marking, barebacking, light bondage, blindfolds, D/s dynamics, blowjobs and face-fucking, rough/angry sex, sleep sex, somnophilia, partially clothed sex, power dynamics

I'm Not a Fan Of:
rape/non-con, major character death (when not canonical), non-con/public humiliation, epithets (the other man, the brunet, the younger man, etc), scat/watersports, dark!characters or dark!fic in general, child abuse, child death or miscarriage, mpreg (in general), baby and kidfic (in general), infidelity (particularly the main pairing cheating on one another), flat-out unhappy endings (ambigous is okay, as long as there's hope!), crossovers, polyamory, rentboy!fic, excessive homophobia, lower-rated fic (generally I like some smut included in my fic)

Because I am obsessed with reading, I'm doing another challenge! :D

My goal for the year is 100 books, and though I have a ton of books just sitting around my apartment waiting to be read, it's likely they will be thrown over for newer, shinier (easier) books. Which is where the TBR Pile Challenge comes in! (thanks for bringing this awesome thing to my attention, [livejournal.com profile] josephinestone)

Basically you pick 12 books that you haven't read yet that have been sitting on your bookshelf for over a year, and you read them within 12 months!

I'm currently finishing up the Heroes of Olympus series before they are due back at the library (1 down, 4 to go!), but then I will pick one of these! Any suggestions about where I should start?

The List
1. Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling (review)
2. 100 Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez
3. Persuasion by Jane Austen (review)
4. Don Quixote by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra
5. Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne (review)
6. The Poisonwood Bible by Barbara Kingsolver
7. The Gauntlet Thrown by Cheryl Dyson (aka [livejournal.com profile] dysonrules)
8. Daughter of Fortune by Isabel Allende
9. Oh the Glory of it All by Sean Wilsey
10. Great Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe by Edgar Allan Poe
11. Mr. Perfect by Lisa Howard (review)
12. The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan

Alternates
1. Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
2. Les Misérables by Victor Hugo

(Wow, finding books was a lot harder than I thought it would be! Turns out I don't have very many books lying around that I haven't read!)

10 April 2014 @ 11:50 am
One of my more specific New Years Resolutions was to read at least 12 books. Before college I used to read ALL the time, usually multiple books per week, but I stopped making time for personal reading once I got busy with classes and homework and textbooks. I've since graduated, but it's hard to get back into the habit, especially since reading fanfiction has seemed to take its place.

I've decided to keep a post with the books I've read just to see progress! My newly formed book club should help with this, but since some of the girls are going to be moving away in a few months, I can't count on it alone to get me through the last part of the year.

Books I Have Read in 2014:
1. The Silmarillion by J.R.R. Tolkien
2. And the Mountains Echoed by Khaled Hosseini
3. The Divergent Trilogy by Veronica Roth (technically 3 books, but I'm going to count it as one)
4. Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
5. Promises by Marie Sexton
6. Maze Runner by James Dashner
7. Cut & Run by Abigail Roux
8. Merrick by Claire Cray
9. Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck
10. Catch a Ghost by S.E. Jakes

Currently Reading:
• Moneyball by Michael Lewis (for April's bookclub)
• The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

Things On My Bookshelf I Still Need to Read:
• Les Misérables by Victor Hugo
• Persuasion by Jane Austen
• Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen
• Around the World in Eighty Days by Jules Verne
• A Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne
• Twenty-Thousand Leagues Under the Sea by Jules Verne
• Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling (actually my roommates, but I want to read it)
• Oh the Glory of it All by Sean Wilsey
• Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi
(read the first book when it first came out, bought the last two, then my friend borrowed the 1st and 2nd book, left them at her parents house 2 hours away from Seattle, and moved to Germany for a year. I am DYING to read the last two, but too stubborn to pay for books I already own....this one might be awhile)

So many fandomy things! April is going to be a fantastic month, I can tell!

First, how did I forget that [livejournal.com profile] dracotops_harry is posting today!?!? The first submission just posted and it looks fantastic- I know what I'll be reading on my lunch break!

Second, [livejournal.com profile] hpfanficfanpoll opened up nominations. I am already trying to put together nominations for Drarry (obviously) and Next Gen and probably Marauders Era. It's so hard trying to choose only ONE fic for some of the categories, but it';s a lot of fun. I highly recommend everybody go leave nominations and show appreciation for your favorite fics!

Third, [livejournal.com profile] hp_drizzle opened up for prompting yesterday! It's an open-pairing fest, with a 10-prompt maximum. So go leave your weather-based prompts!

Finally, claiming has opened for [livejournal.com profile] hp_kinkfest and [livejournal.com profile] hpholiday's Fantastic Men and Where to Find Them fest.

In completely unrelated news, I went to the gym before work and forgot to bring actual pants to change into, so I am wearing my workout pants at work, which is excellent. I also started my period and have cramps like a mother-fucker, so I am going to retreat into fandom where I read about boys w/ boys who don't have to deal with this shit.

Day Six

In your own space, share a book/song/movie/tv show/fanwork/etc that changed your life. Something that impacted on your consciousness in a way that left its mark on your soul.

There are probably several things that I could put here, But I am going to have to go with Harry Potter.

Okay, this turned out to be way, way longer than it really needed to be... )
