Reveals have posted for this year's hd-hurtfest which means I can finally claim my fic!! Fun fact, I actually outlined and wrote part of this fic wayyyy back in 2015 after listening to the song Here Without You by 3 Doors Down on a cross-country road trip. I loved the idea, but at the time I just didn't feel capable of writing the fic the way I wanted to, so I put it on the back-burner and honestly never thought I'd pick it up again. Fast forward to 2020 and I'd been toying with the idea of picking this one back up when it was announced that H/D Hurtfest would be returning, and it seemed like fate! MASSIVE thanks to those of you who gave this fic a read. I know longer fic with a MCD tag doesn't tend to be massively popular and I so appreciate those of you that read and commented. ♥

It's been seven years since the end of the Second Wizarding War with Voldemort, and a new Dark Lady has taken over in nearby Ireland. Harry feels compelled to volunteer to fight on the front lines, but war is never safe, and Harry has a lot—including his blissfully happy relationship with Draco—to lose.

REVEALS for the 2019 hdtropes fest have just posted, which means I get to claim my fic! I was assigned the CREATURE FIC trope for the lovely leontinabowie, and I was super excited because I've yet to really write this trope for H/D, and I LOVE them! Writing a vampire/veela/werewolf fic has actually been pretty high on my list, but I hadn't yet had the proper excuse or motivation, so this was my chance! Given Leontina's love of Vampires, that seemed the obvious creature choice, and from there, I just had to decide the slant I wanted to take. I knew I wanted to do something a little different, and ultimately I couldn't stop thinking about immortality, and how somebody like Haryr would deal (or not deal) with that. I had an absolute blast writing this one, and I'm pretty pleased with how it came out, which is always a great feeling. :)

Reveals went up yesterday at hd_fan_fair, which means it's time to reveal my fic! This was actually my first time EVER participating in Fan Fair, despite being a massive fan of the fest for years. The timing of it has always coincided with a lot of busyness for me both IRL and in fandom, but I'm really glad I said 'fuck it' this year, and participated anyway. ;)

I've actually been wanting to write a fic like this for awhile now, and even though I hadn't planned on participating in this year's fest, when I saw the hand feeding prompt, I knew this was my chance! Partway through writing my fic, however, my brain decided that my outline wasn't actually telling enough of the story, and what I really needed to was essentially double what I'd planned to write and add in some ~past~ scenes to flesh out how Harry and Draco got to where they are. This was a very unwelcome realization, as I was in the middle of modding hell (all four of the fests I mod have very major events in August), just took on a new position at work that I was under-trained for, and had a planned vacation shortly before the fic deadline. O_O

Somehow, I managed to pull it all together, and was even able to submit the fic a day before the deadline! Anyway, this fic definitely has some content that will not appeal, so it's A-OK if you need to give it a pass. I wanted to really challenge myself with this one, so I wrote a lot of things I don't normally write or read myself!
