2022 Writing Wrap-Up

This has been my worst writing year in terms of overall word count since I started writing. To give some context, it's about 60k lower than my next lowest WC year, which was 151k in 2020. Which in turn was about 40-50k below the average of all of my other writing years, which have been 190k+. I know for a lot of people, 90k words in a year may still seem like quite a lot, but as you can see, I'm used to writing more, and I've felt that difference in terms of my output. Like a lot of people, this has been a really rough year, almost especially because nothing terrible has happened at all. But mentally I have been seriously depleted, which has understandably taken a toll on my creative energy. I'd really love to try and regain some of that in the new year, but we'll see how it goes.

A little under my goal for the month, which I'm not ~thrilled~ about, but considering I wrote almost all of those words right at the end of the month, I'm just glad I got anything down. I think, maybe, I'm starting to come out of my rut, but I also just got back from a vacation, which could have totally thrown all my momentum... Time will tell!( Read more... )

So. I missed my monthly target by a lot, and March was definitely my lowest WC month so far this year. Weirdly, I managed to check several things off the list, they just happened to be low-word count items, either due to editing or because I was finishing up fics that I'd already written the bulk of before March. Just managed to make my monthly word count goal, so I'm happy about that, though I'd low-key been hoping for more. But with my higher levels of exhaustion (heavily influenced by fluctuating levels of anxiety, depression, and general sense of languishing) it just wasn't happening. Frustrating because I've had a LOT of free time to write, and times were I was literally SO bored just lying on the couch wanting something to do, and writing would have been perfect, but it's also not just something that I can make happen if I'm not in the right headspace.( Read more... )

This was always going to be a stretch goal between ~9 days of international travel, my birthday/activities, Thanksgiving/activities, and a shit ton of proofing/modly work for Erised all happening this month. Pretty pleased with my output this past month, especially as I had several days/weeks where I wasn't quite as prolific + a ton of modly responsibilities that cut quite heavily into my fandom time! I was worried I'd be on the low side but this is actually my highest WC month so far this year, though just by a hair. I was quite inspired on a number of projects which is always a great feeling AND I officially hit my word count goal for the year!! Honestly, if it had been an option at GYWO I would have shot for 175k, as 150k seemed low but 200k seemed high, but at this rate I might end the year closer to the 200k than the 150k, but we'll see how it all shakes out--the end of the year is always the busiest for me both IRL and with modly responsibilities so it's always a toss up how prolific I am.( Read more... )

I hit my goal! To be fair, I definitely didn't write all of those words, as 10k of that is on my collab fic and there's no easy way to determine how many words my collab partner and I each individually wrote so I just count the overall progress. But I'm more than okay with that, and generally pleased with my overall progress, especially since I lost about a week at the end of the month due to feeling like crap.( Read more... )

I'm honestly pretty pleased with my words this month! There were only four days in all of June that were zero word days and I made some good progress on several fics. I've been enjoying writing at my usual pace and trying not to get caught up in the fact that I've been mostly out of the HP fandom. I didn't even make one of these posts last month because I was so meh about writing. But the muse came back with a vengeance in May, but not for the fic I'm actually supposed to be writing... Despite the fact that, throughout the month, I felt like I wasn't really making great progress, this is actually my best monthly WC this year, so yay for that! I think finally working on some smaller projects in addition to HDBB has helped, particularly because I'm at a point in HDBB where it's a bit more of a slog and having other things to work on while that sorts itself out has allowed me to somewhat maintain my writing momentum.( Read more... )

Continuing to manage my slow and steady output. I've aimed to write between 30-60 minutes a day for 5-6 days a week and I've reliably hit those benchmarkers. It's meant that, when I do sit down to write, even though it's not for very long, I'm generally able to bang out a decent amount of words. And because I'm not making myself continue to write past that 1-2 sprints, I've not been getting burnt out either. I know I could definitely be writing more if I wanted to, but for now I'm hitting the benchmarks I need to, and I'm happy with the balance. I just managed to hit my 150k WC goal for 2020, so I'm going for that one again in 2021, and we'll see what happens. I'm lowering my writing days goal as I didn't hit that one last year. My fandom feels were really waning at the end of 2020, and it's hard to know if that's a temporary blip or more permanent, so time will tell.

DECEMBER ROUND-UP

Exceeded my goal for the month, if only just! To be fair, most of those words are outline words and barely count. BUT, I do count outline words as to me it's progress and part of my overall process, so I'm not mad at it, especially as my muse as been spotty at best the past 3 months.

2020 Writing Wrap-Up

I'm happy because I managed to meet my word count goal for the year, though a bit bummed as it's my lowed WC since I started writing by nearly 50k, so... Then again, two major surgeries and a global pandemic can tend to fuck with the muse, so I really can't complain!
