2022 Writing Wrap-Up

This has been my worst writing year in terms of overall word count since I started writing. To give some context, it's about 60k lower than my next lowest WC year, which was 151k in 2020. Which in turn was about 40-50k below the average of all of my other writing years, which have been 190k+. I know for a lot of people, 90k words in a year may still seem like quite a lot, but as you can see, I'm used to writing more, and I've felt that difference in terms of my output. Like a lot of people, this has been a really rough year, almost especially because nothing terrible has happened at all. But mentally I have been seriously depleted, which has understandably taken a toll on my creative energy. I'd really love to try and regain some of that in the new year, but we'll see how it goes.

2022 Priorities - How Did I Do?

• Fests: at least 1 Drarry-specific fest and 1 non-Drarry fest: Success! I participated in hd-wireless for my Drarry fest and hp-nextgen-fest for the non-Drarry fest!


• Something new from my fannish bucket list: Partial success! I did check off some tropes I've been wanting to write, but nothing from the bucket list itself.


• Possible 2022 Kinktober fic: Fail :/ Wrote a bit of this, but just could not get into it. I might give it one more try this year, and then put it on the shelf if it's just not resonating.


• Wincest Season Codas: Success!! My high goal was to finish all nine of the ones I had remaining, but at minimum I wanted to write 6, and I ended up completing 8.


• Drarry Long!Fic: I'm counting this a partial success. I didn't finish or post it, but I made some progress. I think 2022 could be the year! Maybe!


• Monthly posting!: Success! Technically, I didn't post anything in December, but I've posted well over 12 fics for the year, including several in November, so I'm counting it as a win! I actually do have fic written that I could post this month, but I didn't have the bandwidth to edit/get it beta'd and didn't feel like pushing myself just to say I posted that month.

2023 GOALS

2023 Total Word Count Goal: 100,000

2023 Total Writing Days Goal: 200

I officially signed up for the 75k tier at getyourwordsout but that was only because that was the only option under 150k--my real goal is 100k. I'd love to get higher, but I'm still not quite sure if this is my new writing normal in terms of output, or if 2022 was just a shitty year.

2023 FIC PRIORITIES

• Fests: at least 1 Harry Potter fest and 1 Supernatural fest. I'm honestly really not feeling Harry Potter at all right now, so this is sort of a test to see if something will grab me. Supernatural as a fandom has a very different fest structure as compared to Drarry in a way that doesn't totally resonate with me, but they've got some smaller fests I'll probably try and do! I think overall I've been enjoying participating in some of the lower-pressure fannish events in general.


• Something new: I've still got things on my fannish bucket list and I'd love to check off at least one of them this year! Several items are in progress, so hopefully at least one will come through!


• Wincest Collab fic: In 2021 a friend and I outlined a good chunk of a long Wincest fic, and made some decent progress on it, and then basically didn't touch it at all in 2022. I would really love to pick this back up and at least make some decent progress on it this year, and my writing partner seems keen, so I'm hopeful!


• Wincest Season Codas: I have one more coda to write (Season 15!) to hit my goal of writing at least one coda per season, and this seems very doable in 2023.


• Drarry Long!Fic: I would love to figure out a way to make this happen, either by sneaking it into a fest, or posting on its own.


• Wincest Long!Fic: I haven't really worked on a proper long fic all 2022 in a way that felt successful, and not at all for the pairing/fandom I'm most invested in at the moment. I would love to try and find that spark in 2023, and I have several ideas that I think could bloom into a fully-fledged fic plot if I invest a bit of time into them.


• Monthly posting!: LOL, pretty self-explanatory!
