January NaNoWriMo
I've mentioned this on my journal a few times, but I think I've settled on January for my "faux" NaNoWriMo challenge! I'd love if others joined me--it's always easier to keep going when there's support!

I'm altering the original challenge somewhat, in that the goal will be to write 50,000 words total in the month of January, but the word count can be spread across multiple works. I'm going to be focusing solely on fanfic, but others are welcome to work on original fic if that's where your muse is at!

I plan on writing daily (the goal will be 1,613 words a day) and updating with daily posts on my progress. I'll likely be hanging out in a chatroom and doing many sprints, though I'm still deciding if I should create a new chatroom, or just utilize [livejournal.com profile] hd_writers chatzy room. Thoughts?

So, who's with me?

I'm not going to be writing daily in January, but I'm planning on doing progress posts to keep myself on track, and I'm super, super down for chat sprints. :D

Eee, that does sound exciting! I have a few planned out, but I'm not sure the order I'll do them in or if I'll get to them all.
[identity profile] blithelybonny.livejournal.com on December 22nd, 2016 04:44 pm (UTC)
i can't wait to hear about them/read them. :DD

i'm going to do a big HERE'S WHAT I'M DOING THIS YEAR post on nyd because 2017 is going to be my year of accountability, lol.

YAY!!! I love those posts! I'm thinking of doing one myself once I figure out exactly what I want to prioritize. :D

Ohhh nice, I'm excited about working on multiple things, so I'm glad we won't have to focus on one work for the whole month. I'm totally down for chat sprints, too!
gracerene[personal profile] gracerene on December 22nd, 2016 04:32 pm (UTC)
Oh yes, multiple things is key! Personally, I've yet to write something longer than 50k, and though the fic I plan on working on will likely hit over that mark, you never really know... :)
[identity profile] carpemermaid.livejournal.com on December 22nd, 2016 05:10 pm (UTC)
Yeah!!! I think that's why I've never finished a nanowrimo before lol. I'm so excited, I'm going to spend the next few days planning and plotting what to work on! :D

How have I not heard about this before? It's exactly what I needed back in November!

I won't be writing daily as I'm horribly burned out from Erised etc, but I will be easing myself back into writing and will probably be around the chatzy room every now and again. :)

Good luck – 50k in a month is a pretty epic goal!
gracerene[personal profile] gracerene on December 22nd, 2016 04:33 pm (UTC)
It's a great thing! And it happens every November, if you find yourself in a similar place next year!

Thanks so much, hon! Hope to see you around chatzy!

Very much in, and hoping that there will be people of all sorts of timezones writing at different times and hanging in the chatroom because OMG I could do with the encouragement....

Wonderful! Excited you're going to join in! :D

I vote for using srs because it's already there and i'm already there usually and I like productivity. <3 But seriously, do what's best for you? The HDW srs room is just handy. I'm going to aim for 50k, and I'm hoping that getting this original story out the door will let me focus on getting new words written so I can crank out a lot of words on my serial. If I'm lucky. I need to get ahead again, and am happy for the nudge.

Nice! Yeah, I think I'll be using the H/D srs chatzy, so I'm sure I'll see you around!

I did [livejournal.com profile] mini_wrimo this year, and it really helped me that there was a post every day that we had to check in with our daily word count. The post closed after 24 hours. I may try to do something like this, and if it's just commenting on your progress post. ;)

I've never did the chatzy thing for writing. Does it work? Is it not just wasting time that could be better put to writing? *she asks naively*

Ooo, that comm sounds super cool! :D

And yes, please feel free to comment with your progress on my posts! I was planning on asking people to comment with their progress if they wanted. :D

And I think chatzy/writing sprints work differently depending on the kind of writer you are, but I find them super helpful. The positive competition aspect adds a layer of fun and incentive not to fuck around, and usually there is only 5 min in between sprints, so there isn't a huge gap where you aren't doing things, but it gives you a break to get tea/use the bathroom etc. in a somewhat structured way so you don't end up spending 20min reorganizing your kitchen instead. LOL, IDK if I'm explaining it well, but I love sprints and the sense of camaraderie of writing with other people. :D

I might be interested... I definitely *want* to, but it depends a lot on various boring real-life things too numerous to list. ;-) Definitely interested to hear what plan you end up coming up with!

Awesome! Yes, RL has a way of intruding, but I hope to see you around! :D
