Susnshine Challenge #3: Canon Recommendations
The third prompt for the [community profile] sunshine_challenge is to talk about books, movies, series, or other media that we love! Given that I read in approximately 500 fandoms, this would be a very long post! So I figured I'd talk about three of the smaller fandoms that I have got into this year that I wish there were SO many more fics in! All of these are books/book series.

1. Temeraire Series by Naomi Novik
Many of you may know this author by her fandom pseud [personal profile] astolat! I adore this author's fanfic and their published works, and this year I read their 9 book historical fantasy series Temeraire and I HIGHLY recommend! It takes place during the Napoleonic wars, but if there were dragons. It's wonderfully written, the characters are fantastic, the way the dragons are woven into the historical bits is fascinating, and the dragons are honestly just the best! I was so hesitant to start a 9 book series, because who has the time, but they are so engaging that they really did fly by, and then I was SO sad because it was over. Thankfully, there was fic to sooth the ache, though sadly not nearly as much of it as I would have liked!

2. The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee
This is a YA Queer Historical romance that was just the best! I listened to it on audiobook (it's read by the actor who plays Tom Riddle in the HP movies) and it was an absolute delight. It's super fun, the characters are so lovely, and the romance and pining gave me ALL the feels. It's a super quick read/listen, but it really was SO much fun. Plus, there is a sequel the focuses on one of the MC's sister, that is also really fun and lovely.

3. Renegades Trilogy (Books 1 & 2) by Marissa Meyer
This is a YA Superhero Trilogy, with the 3rd & final book coming on this November. Another one I listened to on audio, and another SUPER fun series! It essentially takes place about 10 y'warears after an Anarchist revolution, and focuses on the children of the superheroes/villains of that "war." Its got queer rep, secret identities, torn loyalties, falling for your nemesis, and a lot of really interesting and thought provoking stuff. Plus, again, super fun and action-packed and exciting!

I've seen the Temeraire books mentioned a few times now and my interest is officially piqued. *adds to my growing list*

I'm a huge fan!! I also ADORE her standalone books, Spinning Silver & Uprooted, which I started with because a 9-book series was a bit daunting!

Oooh, I recently picked up a copy of The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, but I haven’t got round to reading it yet. Glad to hear it’s good!

Awesome! I hope you like them! Her published novels are very different from her fanfic, IMO, but still excellent! I also really loved her standalone novels, Spinning Silver & Uprooted!
