Snowflake Challenge Days 5 & 6

Challenge #5: Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've briefly interacted with and friend/follow them.

Done!

Challenge #6: Make a list of things that you wish existed in fandom or elsewhere, or that you'd like someone to make for you.

For myself:

1. Art based on my fic: Every writer pretty much puts this one down, but that's because it's amazing! I've been blessed to have several artists create art for my fics in the past, and it continues to be one of my absolute favorite things. ♥

2. Collab Buddy: One of the things I've never done and have always been a bit curious about is a collaboration, either with another artist or another author. I've worked with artists before for Big Bangs, but that was after I'd already come up with the idea and written the fic, and I'd love to try a more collaborative creation process. :D

3. Rarepair Beta: I write so many pairings, and I have a number of betas I rotate through, but I'd love somebody who's specifically volunteered so I don't feel so guilty asking people to beta my Harry/Firenze weirdness. The key here is, I really, really, really prefer betas who will provide more in-depth concrit and analysis of my fics. I love a good squee comment, and if you see SpaG issues, please do correct those, but I want somebody who will tell me if the pacing is off, if a character reaction doesn't quite fit the scenario, if I didn't manage to fully capture the nuance of a situation, etc.

For Fandom:

1. More Recs: I'd love for more people to consistently rec, and not just with a reblog with not content, but actual recs that tell me why you enjoyed the fic. It doesn't have to be paragraphs! But I'd love to see more reccing.

2. More Comments: I get that not everybody has the spoons to consistently comment, but it has generally felt like there has been a decrease overall in commenting. I'd love if more people consistently made an effort to comment on what they're reading and enjoying, especially for rare pair ships which tend to get less love.

3. More interaction on Dreamwidth: Journals are just my preference when it comes to fandom engagement, which I know is not the trend. But I find them so much more fufilling, and I'm really hoping that a lot of the faces I've seen around this month will stick around throughout 2020. <3

I'd totally be up for some rare pair beta'ing - could always do a trial run to see if I can do the kind of beta you're after if you wanted?

I love your fandom wishes, and I hope they all come true! I've made an effort this year to comment more on fics and I've really enjoyed the extra dimension it's added to my reading, so I'm going to continue that this year while also starting to rec a lot more. And yes, I really hope everyone stays here on Dreamwidth - I certainly plan to!

Aww, thanks hon! I will give you a poke when I've got a rare pair! <3

I would love to read your Harry/Firenze stories, could you give me a link and perhaps rec some other you might've read yourself?

I can't remember any others I've read off the top of my head, but you can find my fic here if you're interested!

Yes to all your fandom wishes. Rare pairings could use more love. It's nice to get kudos and views, but writers like to know what their readers like about their stories.

Agreed!

I agree on the reccing! We all have different tastes and standards, so it's nice to know why someone liked a story.

Yes, absolutely!

Are you familiar with [community profile] fancake? It's a multifandom rec comm, that posts around a trope or theme. The current one is diplomatic marriage. Two other more personal rec comms that I follow are [personal profile] unfitforsociety and [personal profile] isabellerecs .

Here's hoping that last wish manifests well in 2020. :)

Thank you so much!

I really home there's more DW interaction this year, too! It feels more personal and less performative than other forms of social media tbh.
gracerene[personal profile] gracerene on January 13th, 2020 02:25 am (UTC)
Yes, that's a great way of putting it!

Yay to more Dreamwidth interaction! I'm also pretty much always available for rare pair beta reading too particularly as you - unlike me - are well able to write short fills! :D

Never worry about asking me <3

I share all your wishes for the fandom. I love such interaction on journals I’ve got to experience this month. And just as I always hope to hear what readers have liked about my writing, I actually enjoy doing my share and explaining why I enjoyed a story I comment on or rec. Somehow I feel it’s a pity that fic is mainly not on the journals (in the way it used to be on LJ) and I wish that on AO3 there were more comments and discussion in addition to kudos. In any case, let’s keep DW active after Snowflake, too!

Yes, I definitely plan to stick around! I've been fairly active on here for the past several years, so I'm hoping more people are as well. :D
