What I'm Reading

What did you recently finish reading?

In Defense of Food: An Eater's Manifesto by Michael Pollan
Not a bad read but not exactly ground-breaking.

Breathing Lessons by Anne Tyler
Well written with incredibly realistic characters and relationships. Which ended up being a bit of a detriment for me, personally, as I couldn't stand the main character. Just the kind of person who presses every one of my buttons

Spare the Rod (The Heretic Doms Club Series #3) by Marie Sexton
I loved the first two, but this one was disappointing. :(

Notable Fanfic Reads:
-Golden Boy by [archiveofourown.org profile] trilliath (Teen Wolf, Sterek)
(Didn't read much fanfic this week, tbh)

What are you currently reading?

Gulp: Adventures on the Alimentary Canal by Mary Roach
Current non-fiction read!

Cry, the Beloved Country by Alan Paton
My current audiobook read for my daily walks and when I'm cooking/cleaning/doing various chores. So far, so good, but the going is slow.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Spook: Science Tackles the Afterlife by Mary Roach
Next non-fiction read!

Foreign Affairs by Alison Lurie
Next Pulitzer Prize winner read.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone by JKR
I'm doing a reread of the series in the second half of this year, and I think I'm going to try and do book one in the next week!

I’ve admired Anne Tyler’s writing, and having come across one of her novels about ten years ago, I’ve wanted to read all of them, often eagerly waited for a new one. Her characters and the narration feel so real that it’s been like living with them all. It’s been all right with those irritating ones, too, just like real life. Now I can’t remember and distinguish between their stories, and unfortunately I can’t rec you a novel with a totally different main character from the one in Breathing Lessons.

I've heard good things about The Accidental Tourist so that one's on my list as well.
