What I'm Reading

What did you recently finish reading?

One Person, No Vote: How Voter Suppression Is Destroying Our Democracy by Carol Anderson
Really good and a bit devastating, but very dense.

Witches, Sluts, Feminists: Conjuring the Sex Positive by Kristen J. Sollee
Ehh. Not a book I would have picked up on my own, but my sister got it for me. Relatively quick read, but wasn't quite for me.

White Teeth by Zadie Smith
Still mulling this one over. Fabulous writing, but quite a long book in which nothing particularly seems to happen...

Notable Fanfic Reads:
-have a cigar by [archiveofourown.org profile] deadlybride (Supernatural, Wincest)
-Blow-By-Blow by ???  (Harry Potter, Drarry)

What are you currently reading?

Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void by Mary Roach
Current non-fiction read! I think this might be my last Mary Roach book and I'll have read her whole catalogue!

Peace Talks (Dresden files #16) by Jim Butcher
Current audiobook listen. I'm getting close to finishing, probably this week, and then I have to wait for the next book. *cried forever*

Harrison Campus Series by Anyta Sunday and Andy Gallo
Book 1 was okay, book 2 was better, so I'm hoping book 3 improves again!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Pieces of You (Missing Pieces, #1) by N.R. Walker
This author can be a bit hit or miss for me (with more hits than misses), and I'm honestly really not keen on memory loss as a trope, so not sure how this will go... But the final book in this series just came out so I should probably read book one...

House Made of Dawn by N. Scott Momaday
Next Pulitzer Prize Winner read!

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by JKR
Meeting virtually this weekend with my friends to chat about this book, so I'll be rereading in the next few days.

Fanfic:
-Liar by [archiveofourown.org profile] jad (Harry Potter, Drarry)
-A Change of Heart by [archiveofourown.org profile] Ladyoftarth (ASOIAF, Brienne/Jaime)
-Just Tell Me When It's All Right by Anonymous (Harry Potter, Drarry)

I am SO stoked to read that Drarry fighting fic when time allows.

Any chance you might do some CoS meta? I haven't re-read that one in forever and would love to hear thoughts on it!

I hope you enjoy!!

And I might do a meta post! I'd been planning on it with each book, but then I got so busy when I reread the first, and I've been feeling a bit weird about HP canon squee in the wake of JKR fuckery. But it's always super interesting rereading the books with that fannish slant, and I always end up earmarking a bunch of little details I'd forgotten about!

You might have already mentioned the re-read (aiieeee, I am dense and can't remember) but that's so cool! I might do something like that this winter.

It's been interesting! I've not reread the books since 2015 and I'm doing it this time around with non fandom friends/the RL friends I read the books with when they first came out, so it's been fun to have conversations about them with our different perspectives/backgrounds!

I was similarly meh about Witches, Sluts, Feminists (also a gift from friends) but I'm happy I read it, since it introduced to me to this briefly mentioned woodcut of a hot age-gap lesbian threesome from 1514.

Ooo, I remember that! There were definitely some interesting things mentioned, but didn't quite dig deep enough for me.
