What I'm Reading

What did you recently finish reading?

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling
Still a banger. This was my favorite book for the longest time until book 5 stole my heart. It's been really interesting reading these books through different lenses. I have a bunch of thoughts, and I keep meaning to make a post, but I've not had the time/mental energy, so we'll see if that ever happens...

Peace Talks (Dresden files #16) by Jim Butcher
Fabulous! Ends on a bit of a cliffhanger so I'm glad that the next book is out at the end of September!

Better Be True (Harrison Campus #3) by Anyta Sunday and Andy Gallo
Quite enjoyable. Light and easy, which is what I wanted.

Notable Fanfic Reads:
-Space Oddity and sequel The Man Who Fell To Earth by [archiveofourown.org profile] FayJay (Smallville, Clex)
-all the feelings that you're making me feel by [archiveofourown.org profile] M0stlyVoid (Harry Potter, Drarry)
-a little bit of grit by  Currently Anon (Harry Potter, Snaco)

What are you currently reading?

Packing for Mars: The Curious Science of Life in the Void by Mary Roach
Current non-fiction read! I think this might be my last Mary Roach book and I'll have read her whole catalogue!

House Made of Dawn by N. Scott Momaday
This month's Pulitzer Prize winner read. I'm about halfway through and I am not loving it. :(

A Very Punchable Face by Colin Jost
Current audiobook read/listen. So far I'm enjoying it.

What do you think you’ll read next?

A Taste of Blue by Camden Moore
The lovely and talented [personal profile] ruinsplume just published this co-written MM romance and I'm hoping to get a crack at it next week!

Stamped from the Beginning by Ibram X. Kendi
Next nonfiction read.

You know, for the longest time, PoA was my favorite. But the older I get, the more I find myself reaching for OotP over and over again, more than any of them.

Not trying to force thoughts out of you because I know how daunting it can be to do meta! But I'm curious if there's anything in particular you really love about CoS? Maybe just a favorite moment from this reread or something? (Even those are hard to pick, I know!)

Haha, I actually just made a whole post on my thoughts, you guys convinced me! IDK if I had a specific favorite moment, but Ron had several lines that reminded me how much I love him and what a bummer it was that they totally gutted his character in the movies.

I'd be so interested to hear your thoughts on the books if you do find the time/energy to write them down! As I think we've discussed I'm also rereading but a friend has my copies of the earlier books so I've jumped straight in at number 5 which I think is my favourite book too. It's been quite nice to go back and remember what is canon vs fanon and is definitely leaving me with some things to bear in mind when I'm writing fic.

I just made a post! I think I'll try and do a wrap-up as I read, as I've definitely found the reread to be very interesting!

Count me as another who'd be interested in hearing your thoughts on CoS. It was never a particular favorite of mine so I'd love to hear what you like about it.

I just made a post! :D I will say, it's definitely not my favorite anymore, and I'm not totally why younger me loved it so much, though I still enjoyed it!

I'm fascinated by the fact Book 5 is your fave. It's not one I loved a great deal.

I remember I liked CoS a lot too, and I'm very fond of the film only bc of Kenneth Brannagh, who is such a delight as Lockhart. You can tell he's having the time of his life portraying him.

Oo, yes, he was a brilliant Lockhart!! I've been rewatching the movies as well (just watched the first last night and planning the 2nd for next week) and I've been looking forward to his performance!
