What I'm Reading

What did you recently finish reading?

The Greenhollow Duology by Emily Tesh
Overall I quite enjoyed this series! Personally, I'm not sure the second book was entirely necessary, but I did like it!

Aya by Marguerite Abouet
Part of my Around the World Challengefor Côte d'Ivoire! It's a graphic novel and I really enjoyed it!

Kindred by Octavia E. Butler
I thought this one was interesting, but I didn't enjoy it quite as much as I expected to. I feel like sci-fi isn't really an accurate genre placement for this one and I got too distracted by the lack of answers in regards to the why/how of the whole time travel thing.

The Last Sun by K.D. Edwards
Promising start of a queer fantasy series! The first 1/4 was pretty confusing in terms of world-building, but I was hooked by the end!

Semicolon: The Past, Present, and Future of a Misunderstood Mark by Cecilia Watson
Not quite as engaging as I was hoping, but then again, it *was* about a piece of punctuation so that is probably on me, LOL.

Notable Fanfic Reads:
-Shook Me Cold by [archiveofourown.org profile] 1lostone (Teen Wolf, Sterek)
-All the Time in the World by [archiveofourown.org profile] lumosed_quill (Harry Potter, Sirry)

What are you currently reading?

Instant Karma by Melissa Meyer
Finally got this one again from the library and I am determined to finish it this time before I have to return it! I got it in both audio and ebook, so if I don't have as much listening time I should still be able to read through it pretty quickly!

Tales of the South Pacific by James A. Michener
Current Pulitzer Prize Winner read. Not bad, but slow going.

Transcendent Kingdom by Yaa Gyasi
I've had this on hold since it came out and it just came in! I adored this author's debut novel, Homegoing, and I'm already about 1/3 of the way through this one and really enjoying it.

Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents by Isabel Wilkerson
Current non-fiction read! Loved the last book I read by this author, and I've heard equally great things about this one!

What do you think you’ll read next?

Four Hundred Souls: A Community History of African America, 1619-2019 edited by  Ibram X. Kendi & Keisha N. Blain
Next non-fiction read!

Twenty Love Poems and A Song of Despair by Paublo Neruda
Part of my Around the World Challengefor Chile! I've read several of his poems, mostly in the original Spanish, but I've yet to read a full book of them.

Chronicles of Alsea Book 2 by Fletcher DeLancey
I think my plan is to read one of these books a month since they're quite meaty and I want to have room for other reads! I just got book 2 from the library for my February read!

Found at Sea by Jaclyn Osborn
MM Romance with pirates!

Fanfic:
-Good Intentions by [archiveofourown.org profile] alittlebriton(Shadowhunters, Malec)
-Favorite Things by [archiveofourown.org profile] suzvoy (Teen Wolf, Sterek)
-Heart Like Neon by [archiveofourown.org profile] lumosed_quill (Harry Potter, Drarry)

I wouldn't call Kindred sci-fi either. Maybe closer to magical realism?

Yes, it's a hard one to classify!

Funny how worlds collide sometimes. I know suzvoy from Untamed fandom on twitter but didn’t know they wrote TW fic. 😆

Happy reading. I love to see the progress of your around the world challenge. 👏

Thanks, hon!

And it's always so fun to find authors that write in more than one of your fandoms!

Ooh, can't wait to hear your thoughts on Four Hundred Souls! That's on my TBR as well.
