What I'm Reading

What did you recently finish reading?

The Tarot Sequence by K.D. Edwards
Really enjoyed book two and already super keen for book 3 which should *hopefully* be out before the end of the year. Not without its flaws, but it speaks to me.

Pansies by Alexis Hall
Solid MM romance, but I had a feeling I wouldn't *love* it due to the trope, and I was right, though I think the author did a great job with it overall.

A Small Place by Jamaica Kincaid
Read this extended essay as part of my Around the World Challenge for Antigua & Barbados and I highly recommend!

Guard of Honor by James Gould Cozzens
Most recent Pulitzer Prize Winner read. Yet another war book (surprise, surprise) and such a slog.

Notable Fanfic Reads:
-A House on Fire by Currently Anonymous (HP, Drarry)

What are you currently reading?

Girl, Woman, Other by Bernardine Evaristo
Currently reading as part of my Around the World Challenge for UK - England.

Kink edited by R.O. Kwon
Nearly done with this one. It's a collection of short stories on kink with some big names, but I was left underwhelmed. Many of the stories didn't feel particularly kinky at all, and it just came across as quite a bummer, tbh, like, the stories were sort of downers.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Starting from the Top by Lane Hayes
Next MM romance read. I've generally been enjoying this series, though this author is very hit or miss for me.

Debt: The First 5,000 Years by David Graeber
Next non-fiction read.

The Blue Sky by Galsan Tschinag
Next in my Around the World Challenge for Mongolia.

Chronicles of Alsea Book 3 by Fletcher DeLancey
Just got book 3 from the library and I'm quite looking forward to digging in. This series has been such a delight so far.

Debt is a great book and I'm glad I read it, though it took me a while to make my way all the way through it. It ended up being much more vast and sprawling in scope than I expected--it ultimately argues that concepts of debt underlie everything in our society, not just economics but also morality and human rights--and Graeber does the work to get there, but it's not a quick trip. Sometimes I wish he'd written a series of books focusing on different areas rather than just the one comprehensive tome; often I find myself thinking of something I read in it, but when I get the book off the shelf, I can't find the part that talks about it. (Having it as an ebook would probably make it easier.)

I'm glad to know you enjoyed Debt! My BFF from college recommended it to me and also mentioned that it had a pretty big scope and I'm very curious. Those arguments sound really interesting!
