What I'm Reading

What did you recently finish reading?

Debt: The First 5,000 Years by David Graeber
This was fascinating. Quite a broad scope and the author covers a lot of ground--it felt like any one of his chapters could have made for their own books but it certainly gave me a lot to think about.

The Yearling by Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings
Pulitzer Prize Winner read that *wasn't* about war! Hooray! Interesting in that it was essentially YA before that was a real genre--IDK that it would have been considered for the PP today, but I actually really enjoyed it.

Girls of Riyadh by Rajaa Alsanea
Finished this audiobook as part of my  Around the World Challengefor Saudi Arabia and I thought it was a really fun book! I'm really glad I picked this one for SA.

The Seas by Samantha Hunt
A friend recommended this for some cool magical realism, which is a genre we both love, and this was really, really well done.

Under the Udala Trees by Chinelo Okparanta
Part of Around the World Challengefor Nigeria which I was extra excited about for the queer rep. I didn't love this one as much as I expected but it was very good.

What are you currently reading?

Wonderworks: The 25 Most Powerful Inventions in the History of Literature by Angus Fletcher
Current non-fiction read

The Collected Stories of Katherine Anne Porter by Katherine Anne Porter
Current Pulitzer Prize Winner read. I'm generally not wild about short story collections, they're just not my thing, so this has been a bit of a drag.

The Patiences Stone by Atiq Rahimi
Current audiobook listen as part of my Around the World Challengefor Afghanistan.

What do you think you’ll read next?

My Grandmother's Hands: Racialized Trauma and the Mending of Our Bodies and Hearts by Resmaa Menakem
Next non-fiction read.

Karate Chop by Dorthe Nors
Next in my Around the World Challengefor Denmark.

Vino & Veritas Series by Various
Next MM romance reads! The first book in this series didn't wow me, but the authors for books 2 & 3 are a lot more reliable for me, so I'm hopeful I'll enjoy them!

To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini
I really enjoyed the Inheritance Cycle by this author back in the day (I'm actually planning a reread soon!) so I'm looking forward to reading this, which I believe is essentially his first proper novel since that series ended about 10 years ago...

Whew, you finished Debt so fast! Totally agree, he often covers more in one chapter than other authors do in entire books.

Haha, yeah, it was so interesting I just kept reading! There was def a lot there though and I can see it as the kind of book that needs a lot of rereads to fully sink in.
