What I'm Reading

What did you recently finish reading?

Lost & Found: A Memoir by Kathryn Schulz
Most recent non-fiction read and I thought it was spectacular. Beautifully written memoir on grief and love--highly recommend!

My Husband by Rumena Bužarovska
Recent read for my Around the World Reading Challenge for Macedonia. Impressive and compelling set of short stories set in Macedonia and all from the POV of different women, ruminating on their lives and relationships with their husbands. Fascinating character studies and just really smart, engaging writing.

The Scholomance Trilogy by Naomi Novik
Really enjoyable series overall, though I would say that my enjoyment decreased with each book, which isn't exactly ideal. Still, I did like them on the whole, and Novik's writing is as charming as ever.

Chrysalis (The Formicary #1) by S.E. Harmon
MM romance read that was just OK. On the fence if I'm gonna bother with book 2 tbh.

What are you currently reading?

Avocado Anxiety and Other Stories About Where Your Food Comes From by Louise Gray
Current non-fiction read.

Saturday is for Funerals by Unity Dow
Next read for my Around the World Reading Challenge for Botswana.

What do you think you’ll read next?

Deconstructing the Fitness Industrial Complex: How to Resist, Disrupt, and Reclaim What It Means to Be Fit in American Culture by Justice Roe Williams, Roc Rochon, & Lawrence Koval
Next nonfiction read.

The Gurkha's Daughter: Stories by Prajwal Parajuly
Next read for my Around the World Reading Challenge for Nepal.

The Empire of Gold (The Daevabad Trilogy, #3) by S.A. Chakraborty
Book club read! I think I'll probably at least start this one in the next week.

Off Campus (Bend or Break #1) by Amy Jo Cousins
Next MM romance read.

I've read book 1 of Scholomance and my best friend is nudging me to read 2 (which I own in paperback) and 3 (which she would have to lend me in hardcover). I'm guessing i'll be waiting until I can get the third book in paperback, tho, and have them all in hand. I really enjoyed the first one.

The first book in the trilogy was definitely my favorite, with my enjoyment somewhat diminishing in each subsequent book, but overall as a set I did still very much enjoy them! I hope you do, too, if/when you get around to reading the others!

Even if the quality declines, as long as I can still care about the characters and it's still fun, I'm sure I'll enjoy (I'm just hoping she sticks the landing at the end, but I have faith). I suspect I will start with a reread of the first and just roll through all three when the time comes!
